Osmo Coding Awbie Review: A Fun Way to Teach Kids Code

I am always keeping an eye out for the latest and greatest coding games and best coding apps for kids. Some of you may remember the review I did a while ago on Osmo’s Coding Jam. Well, Osmo has other coding 护士国产综合 out there, like Osmo Coding Awbie, and it is just as wonderful and educational.

What is Coding Awbie?
Osmo’s Coding Awbie is another app+kit that uses the basic functions of coding to teach kids as young as 4 or 5 how to code. There are so many proven benefits of coding, and I feel like these benefits apply to any child.
Coding Awbie provides a wonderful introduction to coding skills and concepts for even the youngest child. If you are not familiar with Osmo, you are missing out! This hands-on, tangible play system takes a screen and turns it into an interactive experience.
In order to take advantage of this system, you do need a base with a reflector, you can also purchase one for an iPhone if you don’t have a tablet.
Coding Awbie uses a levels-based game to teach kids how to make use of Algorithms, Sequences, and 秘密教学.
The game itself uses the adorable Awbie to walk through a park full of animals, strawberries, and hints.
How to Play Osmo Coding Awbie

Awbie has lost his pets, and must now look for them through the different levels of the game. Along the way, he can collect strawberries or plants to put in his garden. He can also catch his pets to bring back to his garden site, but wouldn’t you know it, there are always more pets missing!
Children interact with the screen by manipulating tangible blocks of code within the “viewing” area of the Osmo Reflector. If the blocks are too far away, the game gives the child a hint to move the blocks closer.
Once the child has the blocks in the order they think will work, they push down on the “Play” button, signaling Awbie to follow the path laid out for him. Kids can use a combination of Walk, Jump, Grab, turning arrows, and iteration numerals to get Awbie where he needs to go.
As Awbie collects berries, finds his pets, and earns plants for his garden, kids will find that the levels increase in difficulty. Awbie will be asked to jump over water, skip over lily-pads, and go up or down steps.
The increasing difficulty ensures that kids stay interested and are challenged appropriately throughout the levels of the game.

Why Play?

Osmo’s Coding Awbie uses several of the Basic Coding Concepts that are useful for children of any age.
Algorithms are seen throughout the game. Game-players are asked to give Awbie instructions and directions to help him get through his environment. Each time the player pushes the “Play” button, they are “看片网站” different algorithms for Awbie to complete.
Sequences are necessary in the game to make sure instructions occur in the correct order. Awbie only does what the player tells him to

Osmo’s Coding Awbie helps kiddos learn and reinforce so much more than just coding skills. They work on map-reading, collaborating, problem-solving, and even basics like counting and directions.
This is one of the main reasons I feel like coding needs to be introduced to children at such a young age. They are not just learning about coding, they are learning about a whole slew of other accessory concepts while playing a game that is engaging, fun, and educational.
