To control the robot you can use the included IR remote or the app. I found the remote to be a bit finicky so I quickly moved on to the app which I think gives the most user-friendly experience. The remote does work you just need to make sure you have a good sight line to the robot.

Ozobot, the company behind our coding robots Bit and Evo, have a completely new product! It not only helps teachers with standards-based lessons for many different subject areas but also helps boost teacher confidence through interactive teacher training. Add in real-time monitoring of student learning, and you’ve got a winner! Introducing Ozobot Classroom!

I was so excited when I saw that the Ozobot Founder and CEO had given a date for release, and now it’s here! Hopefully, this will be the first of many products that make incorporating coding and computer science into the classroom less daunting for teachers.

What is Ozobot Classroom?

Ozobot Classroom is similar to the previous Ozobot Classroom Kits as far as the number of robots goes. Educators or schools can choose from two options, twelve or eighteen robots in the kit – both of which come with a charging case to keep the bots in when they are not in use. Ozobot Classroom is only offered with the Evo robot. The kits used to be offered with Bit robots, but the lack of lights, sensors, and Bluetooth features slowly made Bit obsolete.

Because Evo does have Bluetooth capabilities, Ozobot Classroom allows a teacher to connect with from across the room. The (patent pending) Ozobot Classroom Communicator will connect to up 18 Evo’s at once, and allows the teacher to see exactly what is happening with any particular robot in real-time! (The Ozobot Classroom Communicator is also free if you request one from the Ozobot Classroom site!)

Beyond simply connecting the robots to the teacher’s device, Ozobot Classroom has so many features that are going to make teaching coding and computational thinking so much easier. If teachers want to explore but don’t have an Evo, they can still sign up for Ozobot Classroom. Signing up would be a great way to explore the platform, but teachers would need an Evo to take advantage of the features like “Bot Camp” or “Classes”.

How to get started with Ozobot Classroom

When teachers first log in, they will notice a few options on their dashboard. One of the first tiles will be called “Bot Camp”, and is for teachers who have never used any Ozobot before, or maybe who feel like brushing up on their skills. Teachers will also be able to browse the lesson library, or even create their own lessons. Since this platform is brand new, there may not be many lessons in the library right now, but I have a feeling that will change quickly!

The “Lessons” tab is particularly fascinating. I know we talk a lot about how coding and computer science are applicable beyond the computer, but it’s nice to see that idea reinforced within a major product like Ozobot Classroom. There are lessons in the library that cover everything from story sequencing to holidays like Hannukah! Ever thought of coding your Evo to mimic a planet (or planets) in the solar system before? I never had, but what a wonderful way to talk about coding and science in the same lesson!

Another tab teachers will want to use is the “Classes” tab. It is similar to many other online learning systems where teachers con put in students’ names and save the group to be used again later. This feature seems like it would be helpful for teachers in middle or high school when they see multiple classes in a day. Putting students into the “Classes” tab also allows the system to assign the whole class to groups in one click – as opposed to having to assign each individual student. Simply open the class, choose a lesson, and click on “Launch Lesson”. 

Device Connection with Ozobot

Of course, the feature Ozobot Classroom has that everyone is buzzing about is the device connection. When a teacher clicks on the “Device” tab, they are able to connect to one Evo or the whole class set. Once they are paired, teachers can do everything from launch lessons (self-guided learning!) to assign bots to groups of students with one click. While students are working through either a “Color Codes” or “OzoBlockly” lesson, teachers can be monitoring successes and challenges from their screen – allowing them to help when needed!

After the lesson is completed, the teacher will also be able to see a lesson overview. They will also be able to see which groups were struggling, which concepts were mastered, and even which standards the lesson addressed!

I am so excited to see companies moving towards modes of education where coding and computer science are not their own “thing”, but are integrated throughout the school day. Ozobot Classroom even takes teacher comfort into consideration with their “Bot Camp” to help get going on the platform. 

With my two boys getting ready to head into their school years, I can only hope that coding education continues in this direction. We all know that coding education is so much more than computers. It is so nice to see Ozobot Classroom working to show that!

The original Ozobot robot, the “Bit” is better suited for younger kids. If you are looking for coding games your child can play without a computer, Bit would be a wonderful choice.

Bit can work straight out of the box. It is pre-programmed to follow lines and read code by “seeing” patterns of colors on a black line. If you want to teach your kids to code, Bit would provide a wonderful discussion point about how different sensors can provide different input. This input can then be interpreted, understood, and run, all within a matter of a few milliseconds!

Bit comes with a set of four markers to get your little coder started. When starting out, I didn’t have my boys worry about the color codes or anything that complex, we just drew and had fun! We loved how Bit not only followed our lines but also changed color depending on what color it was driving over!

If my boys were a little older, I might have introduced the idea of color codes, or maybe even Ozobot’s coding platform – OzoBlockly. The color codes tend to be a bit tricky for small hands that have not quite mastered their fine-motor skills, so I would suggest using these color code stickers. OzoBlockly can be used on any device that has an internet connection and a screen. There are 口交视频 for all skill levels, from pre-reading to “Master” level coders. Be sure to select the 口交视频 and examples for the “Bit” if that’s what you have!

The latest kids coding bot from Ozobot is called the “Evo”. Much like Bit, Evo can read lines, turn colors, and follow color-based codes. However, as my son pointed out, they don’t call it “Evo” for nothing! This is one of the most sophisticated coding robot toys around.

I think the biggest difference for us was the amount of LED lights on Evo versus Bit. While Bit has one LED on top, Evo has 7 spread out around the top and front of its small dome shape. Beyond the flashy lights, my boys also noticed the sounds right away! The speaker makes you jump if you’re used to a silent Bit, but the familiar beeps and boops put you right at home! (Familiar to anyone who has seen certain George Lucas stories from the late 70’s and early 80’s…)

I have to be honest, we had so much fun playing with Evo’s lights and sounds, we almost forgot that there is an app that can connect to Evo! Evo is Bluetooth-enabled, which means that the firmware that runs it can be updated when necessary – all through the app. This means Evo might last longer, with bugs being worked out and upgrades sent to fix them as need be. (What a great chance to talk to your kids about the very necessary step of debugging your code!) 

Once we remembered the app, I think the part of the app my boys most enjoyed was the driving feature. I’m sure as they get older the games and challenges will help them learn to code, but for now, those pieces were a bit over their heads.

If you are considering purchasing an Evo for you or a loved one, I might suggest looking at the Educator Kit. I wish I had seen this before I bought Evo by itself. The kit has not only Evo, but also access to a whole slew of resources and lessons, on-screen or 滚床单啪啪啪视频, that will help even the least tech-savvy parent teach their kids to code. The kit would also be a wonderful gift for any educator in your life!

I think the thing I most appreciate about both Bit and Evo is just how many different 口交视频 you can do with one tiny little bot. In a device no bigger around than a US quarter, my boys found hours worth of enjoyment and fun! 

While Bit doesn’t have all the flashy features and sounds that Evo does, I honestly feel like it would be perfect for my boys at this age. The markers and some paper is really all they needed to get started! 

That being said, Evo can do everything Bit can do and more. Between the features and the ability to upgrade Evo’s firmware when needed, I would probably spring for Evo anyway. I know my boys may not make use of all of the features right away, but maybe mom will get to brush up on her coding skills?

Let’s break down the steps – we will go into more detail for each step below.

1. Brainstorm Ideas: Explore Thingiverse for inspiration or start with a simple project like a keychain or bookmark.

To begin 3D printing, your child will need a basic understanding of 3D design. This is where Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software comes into play. But don’t worry, you don’t need anything overly complex. Start with something kid-friendly!

Explore Thingiverse:
Thingiverse is a treasure trove of 3D designs that your child can browse and download. This online library offers models of almost anything your child might be interested in, from toys to simple gadgets. Exploring these designs gives kids a sense of what 3D models look like and sparks their creativity.

Learn with TinkerCad:

Safety First:
Remember, the printer’s nozzle gets very hot. Encourage your child to watch the printing process but keep their hands off the machine. Many printers are enclosed for this reason, providing a safe environment for curious little hands.

Where to find a 3D printer

There are now so many 3D printers on the market, and there are quite a few affordable 3D printer options. You also might try contacting your school librarian – They may be able to tell you where in the community you can find a public-use printer. If you can’t find anything nearby, and don’t want to buy a printer yourself, there are services that will print your kids 3D design for you, and ship it to you. However you get the design printed, you will love to see the look of surprise and joy on your child’s face when they see their 3D design IRL! (In Real Life)

What is the Edison Robot?

Edison is a robot that helps teach kids to code through scanning barcodes, block code, and eventually, Python. The coding robot can be used straight out of the box, and is also Lego compatible. One of my favorite 口交视频 is to let kids build up a “Monster Bot” with Legos, then have them compete in a “Sumo Ring” to see which bot comes out the winner. It’s our own version of Robot Wars! Another thing I love about Edison is that it is one of the most affordable robots on the market. Edison Apps

To start with, you want to make sure your child is old enough. If they are not able to read yet, Python will not be a great fit. There are certainly other 口交视频 you can do with Edison, just not Python yet! 

Once you have your Edison, you may want to play around with the “easier” levels of coding before jumping right into Python. Edison uses an audio code to receive its 小情侣啪啪视频, and that can be tricky right off the bat. 

Within the Edison site, there are different levels of coding apps for different levels of kids.

EdBlocks

EdBlocks is a great app to start with when teaching your kids to code. The blocks are easy to understand, and fun to move around.

EdScratch

Once you have mastered that, EdScratch is the next level of coding for kids. It is based on the block-coding site Scratch, which was one of the first coding for kids sites out there. Build by MIT, Scratch is considered the gold standard when it comes to teaching kids to code. Edison basing its app on Scratch (with MITs help and blessing) is a collaboration made in coding heaven!

EdPy

EdPy is the app you want to help your child learn to code with Python. While the language is very similar to what computer programmers use, the platform Edison is built on is not exactly the same as what a programmer sees, which makes it more kid-friendly! Edison’s EdPy has a lot of help built-in; from help with completing commands to a translation from code to English. 

Having these features built-in will help your child learn to code faster, and be more confident in what they are doing. Having a robot like Edison to program and execute the code helps reinforce the algorithms and sequences needed to perform certain tasks. 

When you open the EdPy App, you will be asked which version of the Edison Robot you have. If you purchase it within the last few years, you probably have version 2, or V 2.0. There is a handy little picture for you to compare your robot to if you’re unsure. 

After you select the correct version of Edison, you will be dropped into your first “Untitled Program”. In the left-hand navigation bar, you will see a tab called “Examples”. These are pre-done programs that are ready to go. Some kids really benefit from seeing what the end product might look like, so this is a nice touch! 

As you open examples, tabs will start appearing at the top of your coding screen. Simply click on these tabs to toggle back and forth between the different programs you are looking at/working on. 

Using the Edison Python Student Workbook

From there, I would suggest helping your child download the Student Workbook and begin working through the 口交视频 in there. If you have already played with your robot and your child understands how it works, feel free to skip to lesson 1, worksheet 1.3. This worksheet starts with the basics of getting your child acclimated with the EdPy app, and helps them begin to learn their first few lines of code in Python! 

Within the Student Workbook, there are 10 lessons, and activity sheets to go along with each lesson. Lessons are also broken down into 口交视频, with most lessons having four or five 口交视频 each. After the 口交视频, there are also activity sheets kids can fill out to reinforce their knowledge. I would not think a kid could learn to code in 2 weeks, but I have seen a 13-year-old blow through all 10 lessons AND the accompanying 口交视频 in that short amount of time! Normally, I would consider each worksheet section to be at least one day. With 38 worksheet sections, I could see this taking an upper-elementary school over a month to finish – and probably more like four to six months!

Learning Python with Edison is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the world of the Python Language. The Edison robot is so versatile, it will work for kids of any age. Edison Robot 2.0 - Versatile from Age 4-100!

Edison is one of the most affordable and versatile robot toys of its kind. It’s commonly used in classrooms across the country to teach kids coding. LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox

With the LEGO boost creative toolbox, kids can build five different robots from one set. Each robot is progressively more challenging and teaches different skills. Kids can build and code interactive, motorized robots, models and creations with distance, color and tilt sensor technologies. This is one of the best robot kits for kids out there!

You can also download the free tablet app to follow the step-by-step instructions. This set includes a playmat for use with specific 口交视频, and a LEGO Boost wall poster.

While the kit does give step-by-step instructions, it might be too frustrating for the younger end of the age-range. I could see this being a great option for 8-year-olds and up, depending on the amount of parental involvement. 

This kit does require a tablet or phone, but once you have it, you can combine this kit with other app-connected lego kits to build some really great things! The flexibility and options are wonderful with this kit, and the ability to talk about coding, engineering, structure, and so much else with just one build session is fabulous!

Since writing this review, learning resources has come up with an upgraded newer version of the Botley robot called Botley 2.0.

As compared to the ‘original’ Botley, Botley 2.0 has some great upgraded features. These include:

• Up to 4 Botleys can be used in the same room (great for classroom 口交视频!)
• Up to 150 sequences can be programmed (was 130 sequences previously)
• Remote includes 6 directional options instead of 4
• There is a light sensor for Botley 2.0’s eyes to glow

Overall the Botley 2.0 has more features and upgrades as compared to the original. The ability to have up to 4 robots running at once makes it the better choice for a school or classroom. The price is similar between the two models and therefore we recommend purchasing Botley 2.0.

What age is Botley the Coding Robot aimed for?

Botley has an intuitive interface and a kid-friendly design. Aimed at kids as young as 5, Botley is marketed to a younger crowd of kid coders. My eldest son is currently 5 and he is able to do a lot of the basic robot 口交视频 even without my help. I do think age 5 is likely the right age to start with this robot to get the most out of it.

Most kids age 5-8 would enjoy this robot and find it challenging! Especially if they do not have a lot of experience with coding. After age 8, or for advanced coders, the Botley coding robot is more limited. For coders over age 8 looking for more of a challenge we recommend the Edison robot.

What coding skills are taught with Botley the robot?

At the most basic level, Botley teaches kids critical thinking and problem-solving. In my opinion, these are the most versatile (and necessary!) skills that coding teaches kids. It’s not all about kids becoming computer whizzes and programmers in the future. You can read about all the benefits of learning to code here.

Kids need to learn to program Botley with a code and then have Botley execute the code. By doing this, they are creating an algorithm. This is a nice feature of Botley that some other remote control based coding robots don’t have. Kids will learn to think ahead and predict where Botley will end up based on the instruction they give him. Being able to plan out steps in advance and program them all at once is an important skills for young coders to master.

Botley is also able to perform loops, which are an important part of making computer 小情侣啪啪视频 efficient. Loops are fun for kids to design. Finally, Botley is able to think on the fly! More complex coders can understand how to program Botley for an “If, then” sequence. If Botley detects an object in his way, what will he do? This is one of the more sophisticated features of the Botley coding robot.

Our final Botley Review

We absolutely loved Botley the coding robot and had a lot of fun playing with him and teaching him to follow our basic code. We are going to donate him to our son’s 小情侣啪啪视频 classroom because I’m so excited about Botley as an educational tool for little kids. Botley definitely targets beginner coding skills, which is perfect for the 小情侣啪啪视频 and grade 1-2 age groups.

One of the great features of the Botley Robot is that is completely screen free. In my opinion, this is a great feature for the younger age group. However, at the end of the day, computer 小情侣啪啪视频 does require… a computer! Botley is somewhat limited compared to other robots on the market in this regard.
